The useful starting point

Choose PLA for shape and presentation; avoid assuming it is suitable for heat, sustained loading, or a hot vehicle interior.

01 /

A practical prototype material

PLA prints with good detail and is useful for appearance models, assembly mockups, and geometry checks. It is relatively rigid, but rigidity does not mean high impact toughness or heat resistance. A thin snap tab can still break, and a warm environment can change performance.

02 /

Where it makes sense

Use PLA to check whether a housing fits a space, a handle feels right, or an assembly clears surrounding components. A successful fit check can prevent more expensive revisions before machining a final part. The prototype still needs enough clearance and wall thickness to print reliably.

03 /

Design for the layers

Round sharp transitions around tabs and bosses. Leave material around screw holes and avoid tall unsupported walls. Support-contact surfaces may look different from upward-facing surfaces. Printing orientation affects both appearance and strength, so critical functional surfaces deserve clear definition.

KRC options

The current PLA colors are white, black, red, blue, orange, and green. Upload STEP/STP, STL, or 3MF and verify dimensions. Color selection does not specify a custom color-match standard. Production orientation and supports are selected during the manufacturing review.
