Choose laser cutting for flat parts of uniform thickness. Choose CNC for pockets, stepped thicknesses, and machined metal features.
A flat profile, cut from sheet
A CO₂ laser follows a 2D path through sheet material. KRC’s online laser service covers supported nonmetal materials such as acrylic, MDF, and plywood. The laser bed is 24 × 40 inches; usable dimensions also depend on the selected stock and cutting layout. This service does not represent metal sheet cutting.
Start with a clean DXF
Supply full-size geometry in known units. Closed outer contours define parts; closed inner contours define cutouts. Delete duplicate lines, dimensions, drawing borders, and unnecessary construction geometry. The quote viewer is the place to verify scale and the intended outline before adding the part to the cart.
No CAD required for simple shapes
The Laser Template Builder creates configurable flat shapes and engraved signs. Use it for straightforward geometry without creating a DXF in separate CAD software. Custom profiles and more elaborate geometry fit the upload workflow.
Design around the cut edge
Laser cutting removes a finite width of material called kerf. The resulting fit depends on material, thickness, and process settings. Wood-based materials can show char and smoke marking; acrylic edges may show taper or heat effects. Interlocking parts need allowance for actual sheet thickness and fit.
