Choose 7075 when the design benefits from higher strength; it is not automatically stiffer than an equivalent 6061 part.
Material overview
7075 is a zinc-alloyed, heat-treatable aluminum. Its strength depends strongly on temper and stock condition. It is used when a design needs higher strength without moving to the density of steel. Strength and stiffness are different: changing alloy does not dramatically change aluminum’s elastic modulus.
Where it fits
Compact loaded brackets, links, and tooling components can benefit from 7075 when the geometry and loading justify it. General-purpose fixtures often do not need the added material cost. Corrosion behavior and joining method also influence selection; 7075 is not a general substitute for readily weldable 6061.
Design considerations
Use generous transitions where loads enter a part, and avoid abrupt notches in highly stressed sections. A higher-strength alloy cannot compensate for an inadequate section or an unverified fatigue design. Very thin walls remain sensitive to workholding and residual stress.
KRC ordering route
7075 is listed in the CNC selector. Keep the temper on the drawing consistent with the selected stock condition. For a cosmetic finish, final appearance depends on material condition and finishing process rather than alloy strength alone.
