Select an exact alloy. Free-machining brass and lead-free brass can differ substantially in composition and use.
Material overview
Brass is a copper-zinc alloy family. Many free-machining grades cut cleanly and suit small turned details. Other grades emphasize different properties and may machine differently. Color alone cannot identify alloy or establish suitability for a fluid, electrical, or consumer-contact application.
Where it fits
Potential uses include instrument fittings, spacers, decorative knobs, and small precision components. Conductivity is lower than that of high-conductivity copper, so a brass component should not automatically replace a copper conductor of the same dimensions. Lead content and application-specific requirements need an exact material specification.
Design considerations
Turned profiles are often an efficient route for round brass parts. Specify thread system, seating geometry, and usable engagement rather than relying on a generic fitting shape. Sharp edges and thin threaded walls can be vulnerable even when the material machines easily.
KRC ordering route
Brass is not in the current CNC instant-quote material list. Use custom RFQ with the alloy, quantity, model, and relevant drawing requirements. This guide describes material selection and does not represent a stocked grade or a certified application.
