The useful starting point

Choose nylon with moisture and operating temperature in mind; dimensions can change after machining.

01 /

Material overview

Nylon is a polyamide family, not a single grade. KRC’s current online option is nylon 6/6 in a natural/off-white appearance. Moisture absorption affects both dimensions and mechanical behavior. Dry-stock data should not be assumed to describe every conditioned operating environment.

02 /

Where it fits

Nylon can be useful for rollers, guides, bushings, and contact parts where toughness and wear behavior fit the application. For a close dimensional fit that sees changing humidity, compare acetal and other alternatives. Large sections and constrained assemblies need room for the material’s behavior.

Design considerations

Avoid a zero-clearance sliding fit based only on the as-machined condition. Give fasteners enough bearing area and design for creep under sustained clamp load. Thin unsupported features can move during cutting and after release from the fixture.

KRC ordering route

Use the CNC selector for the listed nylon grade. A drawing should define the important dimensions and any conditioning or measurement requirement when it is functional. Natural color can vary; it is not a promise of a particular cosmetic shade.
