The useful starting point

Choose stainless for the exposure and function; stainless is corrosion resistant, not corrosion proof.

Material overview

KRC’s current stainless option is 304/304L. Austenitic stainless steels are useful for many exposed mechanical components, but they can work-harden during machining. A feature that is economical in aluminum may take more effort in stainless. Material family alone does not define a sanitary or certified component.

02 /

Where it fits

304 can suit brackets, spacers, fixtures, and housings where its corrosion behavior is appropriate. Chlorides, trapped moisture, chemical concentration, and temperature can change performance. An application that needs a different alloy should specify that grade rather than assuming all stainless performs alike.

Design considerations

Favor accessible holes and pockets, robust walls, and larger internal radii. Avoid unnecessary deep tapped holes or tiny long slots. Surface finish, crevices, and part cleanliness can matter to corrosion performance as much as a simple alloy label.

KRC ordering route

Use the online selector for 304 with supported geometry. Other stainless grades use custom RFQ. Passivation, polishing, certificates, and special finish requirements are not implied by the stock selection and need to be included in the accepted manufacturing scope.
